FolkArt Tweets Bird Pincushion directions with photos

 

FolkArt Tweets Pincushion!!

Please use the cross stitch pattern for the bird, it can be found in the pattern "FolkArt Tweets"

These are general instructions to make your very own bird.....with lots of photos

1) Cross stitch the bird and wing separately

I used 14ct Aida

2. Using the stitched wing as a template

 (But add approximately a ¼ of an inch around to make it a bit larger),

 cut out 2 pieces of felt …one for the center of the bird to hold needles 

and the other for the back of the cross-stitched wing.

3. Pin the felt wing on top of the bird and stitch in place

4. Cut out the cross-stitched 

wing leaving approx. ¼ inch extra around the stitched wing,

 stitch the felt to the back of the wing. I use a whip stitch.

5. Cut out the large bird

 leaving approx.. a 1/2 inch around the outer edges.

 

Use this piece as a template and cut out a piece of felt or wool the same size. 

Also cut a long strip of matching wool or felt approx. 2 inches wide.

( I cut 2 but only needed 1)

6. Pin the wool strip around the outer edges of the cross stitched bird, 

right sides facing, and sew all around. Turn right side out

7. Pin the wool bird piece to the other edges

 of the wool strip and stitch all around, 

you will not be turning this because the bird is already facing outward.

 I used a sewing stitch all around and then a 

buttonhole stitch over the outer edges to seal them. 

I did the bottonhole stitch after I had stuffed the bird.

8. Cut a slit into the WOOL bird piece and stuff with

 crushed walnut shells, sew opening closed.

9. Add the separate wing to the top of the bird with a whip stitch

I did finish my outer bottom edges with a buttin hole stitch just to finish it off :)

This is the bottonhole stitch that I saved until the end :)

A Stitch A Long update

 

Just a sneak peek of a new Stitch A Long starting in December

......36 of theses little Stitch An Inch designs, plus I have added the Fruits of the Spirit.

 I was inspired by so many Colonial Coverlets and their motifs

 that I had to make one for myself but only to hang on the wall,

 and I needed to include some inspirational words to refelct on.
I will have more info coming soon.

 And please pass along the news of the Stitch A Long

 to your local needlework shop so they can join too.

"Blue Garden Memories"

 

It has a stitch count of 100 x 74 and is mostly full coverage.

I stitched it on a 32ct antique white even weave over (2) threads.

The floss that I used was DMC, and here is the list:

168, 415, 470, 471, 543, 648, 822, 827, 3024, 3072, 3779, 3787, 3817, 3819, 3820, 3828, 3836, 3839, 3840, 3841, 3856, 3861, 3864, 3865, 3866, Ecru

I will have a limited supply of note cards that have the painted design on the cover. 

I will include these with the charts for the first printing run.

So if you have some memories of the last of your Summer Flower Garden hold them dear,

 take pictures and maybe you can stitch yours also!

Just a little peek of what I have been working on.

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July.

 It has been so hot here

and across the country UGH!! 

We need a bit of rain too.

I am planning on a small 2 day stitching retreat here in York Maine in the fall.

It will be on free hand embroidery and slow stitching.

Lets be creative :)

I do not have any information yet but as soon as I do I will send out more. 

And if you have any suggestions they are always welcomed.
